Preview: Port Adelaide vs South Adelaide
By Roscoe Whalan
Port Adelaide is looking to return to the winner’s circle this weekend after a disappointing five-goal loss to Central District on Saturday.
A win would have seen Port Adelaide square the ledger at 2-2 on the season but instead the Magpies find themselves with just one win from four contests.
The Magpies travel south to Noarlunga to take on the Panthers on Saturday afternoon.
Since Round 14 last season, the Panthers have gone winless in six contests at Hickinbotham Oval.
The Panthers, however, are coming off of an impressive victory against an in-form Tigers outfit last Friday night.
The Panthers were in a similar position to the Magpies just a week ago, after opening their season at 1-3.
Port Adelaide now faces the same position but it’s unlikely that the same team as that which faced the Bulldogs will take to the park this Saturday.
Coach Tony Bamford, disappointed with last week’s effort across the ground and impressed with the form of some of the Reserves players, is expected to take a different look team into this weekend’s game.
“We have had a couple of our guys who have not been playing their best brand of football.” Said Bamford.
“It been that way for a few weeks so we now have an opportunity to reward some of those Reserves players who have been putting in some very good, consistent performances over a number of games.”
The Magpies are expected to come out hard on Saturday and respond this week with a win critical to preventing Port Adelaide falling to a difficult position to recover from.
The first bounce is at 2:10pm on Saturday afternoon at Hickinbotham Oval, Noarlunga. The Reserves kick off at 11:25am.
Tickets are available at the gate for $14 for adults, $8 for concession and kids under 18 get in for free.
