Round 8: Port Adelaide V North Adelaide Preview
By Daniela Abbracciavento
Port Adelaide will go head to head with North Adelaide this week at Alberton Oval on Saturday afternoon.
The Magpies will be searching for a win this week after conceding another defeat against West Adelaide last Saturday.
Port Adelaide are currently placed eighth on the ladder, with only one win for the season and face an in-form North Adelaide side.
The Roosters have won their last three league matches, however have a few injuries to cover this week and the Magpies will look to capitalise on the loss of some of their opponent’s key players.
The Magpies were able to out-score the Bloods in the final term despite the loss and must bring that intensity to the entirety of this week’s match to ensure a win against North.
The game is a must-win for the club to revive its difficult season and senior Coach Tony Bamford says the key to winning this week is to be harder at the ball and to play with more self-belief when going into a contest.
“We need to start playing a more pro-active brand of football if we are going to be a chance on Saturday.”
“The players must find some confidence within them and believe they can win – that will definitely help us get over the line this week,” he said.
Last week’s debutants Tim Broomhead and Aseri Raikiwasa will be likely inclusions again this week with Bamford really impressed with their efforts.
“Last week’s match wasn’t good, but it was great to have them (Broomhead and Raikiwasa) play so well."
“Having two new players excel and play their first game for us was really special for the club,” he said.
Bamford is adamant the club will be able to turn their season around and have the ability to be contenders in the finals race.
“I still really do believe that our best football is good enough to push other teams and win,” he said.
Port Adelaide’s team for the game will be announced on Thursday.
The opening bounce is at 2:10pm at Alberton Oval on Saturday, with the reserves starting at 11:25am.
